If you want a cheap replacement remote for your TV, this will do the job, but it does have a few setbacks. This is not your typical remote for Fire devices as you would think. It works on IR only (infrared), so it only will work with line-of-site of the TV (where as the normal remotes are bluetooth and can work even in other rooms)
Not a deal breaker if you need a cheap replacement, it does the job well for this. It does feel a little off holding it since the round ring is not quite the same design as the official remotes, otherwise it feels about the same. Does not feel super cheap in terms of the construction though. I tried to get it to fit with my Sidekick remote, but it did not quite fit. It may need the alternative adapter that came with the sidekick, but I am not sure where that is to test it.
My only major complaint and my main reason for getting this remote is for the app buttons. My TV’s remote’s third button is for “DirectTV” and fourth is for “peacock” which I don’t have and will never use. So when I tried the button on this remote for Disney+, I was presented with the DirectTV, and the fouth gave me “peacock”. A bit confused, I tried the other buttons and the two blank/custom buttons, only to find they mirrored the apps that my TV’s remote launched. This lead me to look for the manual, only to find that it came with no manual, or instructions, not even batteries.
Turns out that just because they have these labels, does not mean it will launch those apps. It seems that this is controlled by the TV. Even if it has a Disney+ button, unless the TV was designed to launch Disney+ from one of these buttons, you cannot launch it. As far as I can tell, there is no way to program this, or change it, not even from the TV. While it has 2 blank/custom buttons, in my case, both just launch DirectTV, and since there is no manual, I don’t think there is any way to change what they launch, so those buttons seems useless, unless your TV originally had those 2 extra buttons that could be customized.
Pretty bummed to find this out, otherwise it is a decent, low cost remote that will do the job. Don’t expect Alexa voice controls with it or anything, it’s a very basic IR remote.
